The frustrating thing about it for me is that, on one hand, you have peploe who believe in the cause in Iraq so much that they are willing to sacrifice their lives for it. There was no draft for this war it was men and women who stepped up to the job as their own choice, knowing full well that they could come home in a casket. Then, what groups use these pictures? Usually the anti-war ones. I don't think that someone who believed in the war would want their dead body exploited for such a cause. And, many family members of those deceased in the war have openly stated that they do notwant this type of thing publicized.

the survivors shuold be able to decide whether the coffins shuold be photographed. We don't necessarily think it shuold be banned. I think they could modify it to give a little latitude to the families, Ellsworth said several weeks ago. Some people want to celebrate the lives of their fallen, and share their fallen hero with the American people, while others want to hold them a little closer to the vest and keep it private. We shuold respect that. It shuoldn't be up to the government to hide these images to the public, he said. But at the same time, I don't know that we can allow the press to overstep the bounds of good taste in some of these instances. Reply:February 24th, 2009 at 6:22 pmThank you .I believe it can be done in a respectful manner that doesn't intrude on the families privacy.Wizcon Reply:February 24th, 2009 at 7:41 pmIf you go to the Military Families United site, they have a full statement on this.

Watertown SD, Aug 1971 I was on a puddle jumepr plane on my way to Rapid City. They off loaded a casket first, then had a ceremony right there by the plane. Full view of everyones face with the casket right under me. Parents, siblings, freinds and Vets of other wars. That impacted me more than anything else I had seen or talked about including the returning soldiers in airport conversation while waiting for seats on standby, even what I had seen on the news. It's why I remember the date. It's why I remember the cost of war. Had I read his obituary or write up in the paper with all the details, I would not have remembered his death.I don't see the politic's in that other than the circumstances that out him in Vietnam was politics. War is a lesoon in politics gone wrong. Reply:February 23rd, 2009 at 10:53 pmI remember seeing the coffins come home from the Viet Nam war and it really brought home the loss to us all when we lose a young person to war. And every time I watched I was hoping and praying it wasn't my brother, but had it been I would have wanted the nation to know he was a real person who gave his life for his country.
